EU wil uitstel privacybeleid Google

De Europese privacywaakhond Artikel 29 wil dat het nieuwe privacybeleid van Google wordt uitgesteld, totdat duidelijk is of de privégegevens van gebruikers veilig zijn. De EU-organisatie schrijft dat in een brief aan Google.
De zoekgigant claimt dat de nieuwe regels overzichtelijker en eenvoudiger zijn. Google maakte vorige week bekend dat ze per 1 maart ingaan. Artikel 29wil dat eerst wordt uitgezocht welke gevolgen er nog meer zijn voor de gebruikers. Een Franse autoriteit op het gebied van databeveiliging gaat het onderzoek uitvoeren.
"We willen onderzoeken wat de mogelijke consequenties zijn voor de bescherming van de persoonlijke gegevens van de inwoners van de Europese Unie", schrijft voorzitter Jacob Kohnstamm van Artikel 29, die ook voorzitter is van het Nederlandse College Bescherming Persoonsgegevens.
Zelf regie
In een reactie zegt Google-topman Larry Page dat de privacy-aanpak niet veranderd is sinds de nieuwe regels. Bovendien hebben klanten van Google zelf in de hand wat ze willen vrijgeven.
De topman voelt niets voor het uitstellen van de nieuwe richtlijnen. Hij zegt dat er uitgebreid met verschilende belangengroepen is gesproken, ook met leden van Artikel 29, voordat de nieuwe privacyregels tot stand kwamen.
